I remember after 9/11 the sentiment “Never Forget” ran like wildfire through the public consciousness in the United States. And I think it was good. We want to remember something so important and life changing, but we also acknowledge that we are prone to forgetting. The fact is, that we often forget. We forget important dates like birthdays and anniversaries. We forget important events in other people’s lives, but also in our own. We forget why we do the things we do and why we feel the things we feel. That’s why reminders are so important.
Most of the cops and firefighters I know don’t risk their lives because they want to be remembered. They do it because they believe in service. They love their country. They love their families. They love their community. There is no greater gift of love than to give everything…up to your very life for someone else.
As we start a new year, I want to add my voice as a reminder that there are those who sacrifice, out of love for us all. And we want to thank you.
